“Math isn’t just a series of disconnected facts about numbers, but is instead an important framework for understanding our increasingly complex world. I hope that I am able to help students internalize that larger structure while having lots of fun along the way!”

Oryan Brown joined Poly’s Upper School Math Department in 2023. Oryan was born in Negril, Jamaica and moved to Brooklyn in the seventh grade. During his elementary school years, he spent his time working through higher-grade math textbooks, which kickstarted a lifelong love of the subject. Oryan decided to become a teacher to instill a sense of joy and wonder of the subject in as many students as he could reach. As a Knowles Foundation Teaching Fellow, Oryan values thoughtful reflection on his practice, Oryan is a massive show tunes fan and is always humming one. In the warmer months, you will find him longboarding around Brooklyn when he’s not teaching.
